God of War: The Card Game

Kratos and company are heading to your tabletop in God of War: The Card Game later this year. CMON and Sony have teamed up to release a big box card game based on the popular video game franchise, which will arrive in Q3 of 2019. You can see a short teaser video for the game below.

The announcement notes, “In God of War: The Card Game, players take on the role of the Norns as they try different combinations of heroes and events in order to stop Ragnarök. Each game is a new attempt to find the right key to saving Midgard from destruction. One-to-four players must work together, embodying mighty heroes such as Kratos, Mimir, Atreus, Brok and Sindri, and Freya. They will fight enemies and bosses from the popular God of War videogame, but combined and remixed in exciting new ways, creating unique “What if…?” scenarios every time they play. If they succeed, the way forward has been secured and Ragnarök can be halted. Failure means the Norns will have to try again, as only death and destruction lay along that particular path.”

Each hero has their own abilities, health totals, and the like, with players putting together decks to focus on particular balances or strengths. The Quests in the game will be made from mosaics of cards, which represent the monsters and settings of the game. Players will have to figure out how to win the Quests and figure out what strategy to put together in order to win. Additionally, earlier Quests will influence how the game progresses; you must choose which Quests to complete and uncompleted ones will have consequences for the players. This ensures that games will always be different, adding to the replay factor.
