The Hangzhou Spark Are the Overwatch League Expansion Team to Beat, According to Their Rivals

Not only do the Hangzou Spark have the best Overwatch League skins; they’re apparently the most feared expansion team among their rival teams. Overwatch League caster/analyst Christopher “MonteCristo” Mykles posted to Twitter over the weekend noting that while talking with the various OWL teams alongside the other casters, nearly every team cited the Spark not only as the strongest expansion team, but “an overall powerhouse.”

He went on to note that by comparison, the team that received similar praise before last year’s inaugural season was the Boston Uprising. The Uprising, while not given much of a chance by experts after their roster announced, had a strong performance and were the only team to have an undefeated stage, going 10 – 0 in Stage Three.

The Spark are one of eight new expansion teams for the League’s second season, which starts on February 14th. The other expansion teams are the Atlanta Reign, Chengdu Hunters, Guangzhou Charge, Paris Eternal, Toronto Defiant, Vancouver Titans, and Washington Justice. Fans and analysts have been getting on board the hype tran for the Titans, whose roster is largely comprised of the members of Team Runaway. Runaway placed first in the extremely competitive Korean region of Overwatch Contenders for season two.

That said, Monte isn’t wrong. While the Titans are deserving of their hype, the Spark have a fearsome lineup cemented by Xu “guxue” Qiulin, their Main Tank who was one of the biggest stars to come out of the 2018 Overwatch World Cup. Along with guxue are several former members of Korean Contenders’ X6-Gaming who have a history of syngery with each other, and a great DPS foundation in Kang “Adora” Jae-hwan and Park “Bazzi” Jun-Ki of Team Seven.

It sounds like pink and blue could be a winning Overwatch combo this season. We’ll get our first look at the team when they debut against the Shanghai Dragons (last season’s last-place team) on the 14th.
