Way back in early 2017, Marvel and Square Enix announced a new Avengers video game that has quietly been in the works for a while. This week, Square Enix finally dropped the first trailer for the actual game for E3 2019 (as in not a teaser like the last one), which you can check out below. The title is slated for a May 2020 release.

Square Enix is describing the upcoming Avengers game as an “epic action-adventure title” that will feature cinematic storytelling along with single-player and co-operative gameplay. The title is being developed by Crystal Dynamics in collaboration with Eidos-Montreal, Nixxes Software, and Crystal Northwest.

The new game, simply titled Marvel’s Avengers, begins on A-Day, where the team of Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a new hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco, California, along with a new helicarrier that’s powered by an experimental energy source. However, there’s soon a catastrophic accident, and the Avengers are blamed for the devastation, causing the group to disband.

Five years later, superheroes have become outlawed, and the world is in peril. Now, the Avengers have to assemble once again to save the planet.

Square Enix also announced a beta for the PlayStation 4 version that’s available for gamers who pre-order the title at PlayAvengers.Games.

Marvel’s Avengers arrives on May 15, 2020. The game will receive a simultaneous release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox One, Stadia, and Windows PC.
