Microsoft Wins Supreme Court Fight Over Lawsuit Regarding Xboxes

June 12, 2017 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Microsoft has won a Supreme Court case regarding a class-action lawsuit filed over the Xbox. Bloomberg reports that the court ruled unanimously in Microsoft’s favor over procedural elements in regard to the lawsuit, saying that the consumers who filed the suit didn’t have a right to immediately appeal after a trial judge rejected their request to make the lawsuit a class-action case.

The lawsuit, Microsoft v. Baker 15-457, alleged that the Xbox has a flaw that causes discs to be scratched during normal use.

In federal court, litigants are unable to appeal a case until a trial judge has reached a final decision. The five consumers who filed said that they met that requirement due to the fact that they voluntarily dropped their individual claims.
