Minecraft Adding Marketplace in Upcoming Update

Microsoft is keeping up with Minecraft as it continues to grow the blockbuster game. The company has announced the 1.1 Discovery update per Mercury News which adds several features and including an in-game Minecraft Marketplace.

The Marketplace will showcase top content from users which will, per EP John Thornton, “give creators a stage so that they can be discovered.” The store will be curated by the Microsoft team and be integrated with the game. The company is working with nine builders initially and will be taking applications through the Minecraft Partner Program for more. All applicants will need a business license.

The Discovery update adds new concrete and glazed terracotta blocks as well as the ability to craft beds and shulker boxes are now craftable and two new places to explore. The marketplace will be available as part of the update this spring.
