Mortal Kombat 11 Announced, First Trailer Debuts Online

Warner Bros. Interactive announced Mortal Kombat 11 during The Game Awards presentation on Thursday, December 6. This included the first CG announcement trailer for the game, which you can see below.

The announcement included the reveal that there will be Global Livestream Gameplay Reveal on January 17, 2019 at 11:00 am PST/7:00 pm UTC. Per WBIE, the game will be a multi-platform release developed by NetherRealm Studios. It’s due out for an April 2019 launch.

The trailer debut features new music by rapper 21 Savage. The song is titled “Immortal,” and it overlays scenes of an epic battle between two iconic characters, Dark Raiden and Scorpion, with a tease of a new character who is at the center of Mortal Kombat 11’s story.

The Mortal Kombat 11 gameplay debut will stream on The event will feature a keynote presented by NetherRealm Studios. Additionally, the event will include the first opportunity for hands-on with Mortal Kombat 11 gameplay, tournaments and other Mortal Kombat activities.

According to WBIE’s official press release, the new game will have a new Custom Character Variation System that offers creative control of building customized versions of the roster. The game will also featurea new cinematic story continuing the epic saga for the franchise.

WBIE President David Haddad stated on the announcement: “By giving players more creative control, Mortal Kombat 11 is a testament to why this iconic franchise is so strong and increasingly relevant after more than 25 years. This game showcases NetherRealm Studios’ extensive talent to innovate and create epic experiences for the Mortal Kombat fans and new players alike.”

NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon added: “It’s exciting to finally announce Mortal Kombat 11 and showcase what the team has been working on. Our Custom Character Variation System opens up an infinite amount of options for players to personalize their favorite fighters. We can’t wait until January when we’ll be showing more of the game.”

Mortal Kombat is now available for pre-order. That includes a standard edition for $59.99. Players can pre-order the Premium Edition for $99.99 that includes the base game and the Kombat Pack. All players who pre-order the game will receive the in-game, playable character, ‘Shao Kahn’. Those who pre-order on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, at select retailers, will also receive access to the MK11 beta, which will be available in March for those platforms.

Mortal Kombat 11 arrives on April 23, 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC.
