The NBA 2K League is following most esports and moving to an online format, kicking off its third season next week. ESPN reports that season three will start on May 5th with at least the first six weeks being played remotely.

The schedule for the new season will be released soon, with all 23 NBA 2K League teams playing in their local markets. Each week will have sixteen matches that will be livestreamed on Twitch and YouTube, starting at 7 PM ET and running Tuesday through Friday. Each team will play eight matches in the first six weeks, with the three in-season tournaments (The Tipoff, The Turn and The Ticket) set to return as well. There will be a change due to the online format, with each match played in a best-of-three format. Each best-of-three will count as one win or loss for the participating team.

“Our players have been quarantining with their teammates as they prepare for the season and will now have the opportunity to compete against one another and show they are the best players in the world,” NBA 2K League managing director Brendan Donohue said.

Season three will see two new teams joining the league: Hornets Venom GT, owned by Michael Jordan and operated by the Charlotte Hornets; and the Tigers of Shanghai, owned and operated by Gen.G. The Tigers are the first team in the league located outside of North America and not owned by an NBA franchise. They will be among the teams hoping to take the crown from reigning champions T-Wolves Gaming.
