New Details Revealed for D&D Acquisitions Incorporated Book

Many D&D fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Acquisitions Incorporated sourcebook, and now they have some new details to pour over. As D&D Beyond notes, the Penny Arcade team announced a fair bit of information about the book at PAX East. The book, which is the first made by Wizards of the Coast in conjunction with a third party since 2015, will delve deep into the world of the popular Penny Arcade-produced games, which have produced a podcast, huge live shows with celebrity guests and a YouTube series.

Acquisitions Incorporated is written by Shawn Merwin, Teos “Alphastream” Abadia, and Scott Fitzgerald Gray in collaboration with members of the casts of Acquisitions Inc. and Acquisitions Inc.: The “C” Team. Among the details announced was a June 18th release date. The book is currently available for pre-order on Penny Arcade, with pre-orders coming to DND Beyond and other sources on April 1st.

Acquisitions Incorporated will include a new role type, folding in the roles Acquisitions, Inc. roles of cartographer, decisionist, documancer, and hoardsperson as well as the new roles of loremonger, obviator, occultant, and secretarian. Details on the roles are not yet known, but they will supply traits as you become more and more important within Acquisitions Inc’s hierarchy. It will also provided information on how players can integrate their PCs into an Acquisitions, Inc. franchise with suggestions on how to utilize your class archetypes to do so.

The book also includes a new race known as the Verdan, described as “nomadic and mysterious” with powers of adaptations and evolution. They find their origins in an unresolved plot thread from the C Team adventures that saw an army of goblins and hobgoblins consumed by an eldritch power. They were reborn as the Verdan and are just now coming from the Underdark. It will also contain new spells that are linked to your character’s position in the franchise.

There’s also a lot for Dungeon Masters, with plenty of lore about the franchise as well as a full, complete adventure running from levels one through six. And, of course, there will be plenty of monsters and NPCs with stat blocks, featuring “fan-favorite characters and monsters” from the history of of the games.

The Acquisitions Incorporated games have centered on the adventures of the eponymous group, organized together in a semi-corporate organization looking for fame and wealth. Initially created in 2008 to help promote D&D’s Fourth Edition, the show has grown into a popular phenomenon in its own right with a variety of guests including author Patrick Rothfuss (The Kingkiller Chronicle), Wil Wheaton, Morgan Webb, and more. Holkins and Krahulik play regular roles as Omin Dran and Jim Darkmagic in the series, which has expanded over the years and incorporates live performances at most PAX events.
