New Sega Forever Service Brings Free Genesis Games To Android and iOS

June 21, 2017 | Posted by Joseph Lee

Ars Technica reports that Sega will release retro games for free on iOS and Android through the new Sega Forever service. The first batch of games includes the Genesis titles Sonic the Hedgehog, Phantasy Star II, Comix Zone, Kid Chameleon and Altered Beast. The games are ad supported, but an in-app purchase of $2.50 will remove them. More games will launch every two weeks.

Sega Forever “will include both official emulations and ported games that span all Sega console eras.” This includes the SG-1000, the Master System and the Mega Drive/Genesis, which will all run on emulator. Sega Saturn and Dreamcast games will be included and will be direct ports. The first set of games is set to launch today. The games will include cloud saves, controller support and leaderboards. All games are playable offline, regardless of which version the user has. iOS players will get a free iMessage sticker pack with each game.

This follows past releases of games like Sonic, Football Manager Mobile and a mobile version of the Dreamcast game Crazy Taxi.
