Nintendo of America’s New President is Named Doug Bowser, to the Internet’s Delight

February 22, 2019 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Nintendo of America has a new president, and his name is Doug Bowser. No, for real. As Uproxx reports, Reggie Fils-Aimé announced on Thursday that he’s retiring in April and his replacement will be Bowser. If you’re not getting the humor, Bowser is the name of Mario’s archvillain in the iconic Nintendo franchise.

Fils-Aimé was incredibly popular with Nintendo fans because he’s shown a willingness to engage wit the fanbase, and that’s only made the news that much bigger news. The incoming president’s thematically-appropriate name is just fuel to the fire.

“It has been my great fortune to work with and be mentored by Reggie for four years at Nintendo of America,” Bowser said (per Business Wire). “And rest assured, we will continue to build on his work to evolve and expand our brand, furthering Nintendo’s global mission of creating smiles. There are millions more of those to come.”
