Nintendo declared in an official announcement today Nintendo Switch is now the fastest-selling console in US history. It launched on March 3, 2017 and has already sold over 4.8 million units in the country. That beats even Nintendo’s Wii, which previously had the record with just over 4 million in the same amount of time (ten months).

Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime said: “Fans across the country have experienced the joy of playing their favorite games at home or on the go. Now that many more people have received Nintendo Switch systems for the holidays, we look forward to bringing them fun new surprises in 2018 and beyond.

Meanwhile, over 60% of Switch owners have Super Mario Odyssey, 55% have The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, over 50% have Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and 20% have Splatoon 2. Both Odyssey and Zelda are two of the highest-rated games ever. Over 300 games have already been made by third-party developers for the console, including EA’s FIFA 18, Ubisoft’s Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Just Dance 2018, Mojang’s Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition, Rockstar Games’ LA Noire, 2K Games NBA 2K18, SEGA’s Sonic Mania, Capcom’s Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers, Psyonix’s Rocket League and Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and DOOM. Switch also has several acclaimed independent games including Image & Form’s SteamWorld Dig 2, Sidebar Games’ Golf Story, Team17 Digital Ltd’s Overcooked Special Edition and Chuckelfish LTD’s Stardew Valley.

New games set for the Nintendo Switch this year will include Kirby Star Allies, Bayonetta 3, and a new Yoshi game, as well as support from EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Capcom, SEGA, Take 2 and Bethesda, as well as independent developers.
