Pathfinder Second Edition

After years of development and lots of beta testing, Pathfinder Second Edition finally has a release date. Paizo announced on Wednesday that the highly popular roleplaying game’s new edition will launch on August 1st.

The second edition launch titles are now available for pre-order on and include the Core Rulebook, Bestiary, Lost Omens World Guide, the standalone adventure The Fall of Plaguestone, and the first of the new six-volume Age of Ashes Pathfinder Adventure Path: Hellknight Hill. Also available are the new Pathfinder Flip-Mat: The Fall of Plaguestone, Character Sheet Pack, GM Screen, Combat Pad, and Condition Card Deck Pathfinder accessories.

Paizo Publisher Erik Mona said in the announcement, “The launch slate provides everything you need to set out on a world of limitless fantasy adventure. With more than 20 years of active development and playtest feedback from more than 125,000 gamers, the new Pathfinder rules are easy to learn and exciting to master. We can’t wait to see the diverse and deeply customized characters the RPG community will create!”

Pathfinder launched in 2009 as a spinoff of 3rd edition D&D after Wizards of the Coast announced their Fourth Edition. The game was intended to be backward-compatible with D&D 3rd Edition revised and quickly grew to be an industry leader, rivalling and even outselling D&D Fourth Edition. Wizards regained the top spot after Fifth Edition was published in 2014. Second Edition looks to refresh Pathfinder with a more streamlined approach to combat and other significant changes across the board.

Paizo will reveal the September lineup for the new edition in a few weeks, according to the statement.
