After Nintendo found great success releasing mini retro versions of its classic game consoles, the NES and Super Nintendo (SNES), it seems SEGA is following suit. SEGA revealed today that there will be a retro mini-console for the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive, and it will be released later this year to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the original console.

SEGA has already showed off photos of the new mini-console on its official Twitter, which you can see below. There are no other details yet on what’s being tentatively called the “Mega Drive Mini” or “Genesis Mini” for American gamers. SEGA is promising players will be able to enjoy a number of classic games on the mini-console.

The console was home to many classic and iconic games in its heyday, such as the original Sonic the Hedgehog [along with numerous sequels and spinoffs], Streets of Rage, Vectorman, Shinobi, Ristar, ComixZone, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, and many more. Hopefully, a good number of those classic games will make it onto the mini-console release.

The Mega Drive/Genesis Mini will arrive later this year.
