Nintendo has announced they will increase shipment numbers for the SNES Classic when it debuts on September 29. This means it will have more units shipped than the NES Classic Edition, with more shipments coming in stores regularly.

The current plan is to ship more of the retro-inspired Super Nintendo Classic Edition well into 2018. Originally, Nintendo was going to stop shipments at the end of 2017. Now it seems those plans have changed.

Meanwhile, the NES Classic Edition will return to stores in the summer of next year, after previously getting discontinued. The console features thirty classic games including Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda and Donkey Kong.

Nintendo noted in an official press release that the increased shipments are due to fans who “have shown their unbridled enthusiasm for these Classic Edition Systems, so Nintendo is working to put many more of them on store shelves.” This will be great news since many had difficulty finding and obtaining the NES Classic Edition. Additionally, the SNES Classic edition has been constantly selling out everywhere whenever pre-orders for the retro mini-console have gone up.

The SNES Classic will contain 21 games, including Contra III: The Alien Wars, Donkey Kong Country, EarthBound, Final Fantasy III, F-ZERO, Kirby Super Star, Kirby’s Dream Course, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Mega Man X, Secret of Mana, Star Fox, Star Fox 2, Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Super Castlevania IV, Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Super Punch-Out and Yoshi’s Island.

The console includes an HDMI cable, one USB charging cable with AC Adapter and two wired SNES Classic controllers. It will be sold for $79.99. Nintendo promises to reveal more information on the timing of the return of the NES Classic Edition in the near future.
