411 MMA Rankings 11.24.15: Pound for Pound

November 24, 2015 | Posted by Jonathan Solomon

Ten of the 15 ranked fighters in this month’s 411 MMA Pound for Pound Rankings will compete in December or January. Upsets are bound to happen, right? Maybe it’s just the aftermath of Holly Holm’s upset win over Ronda Rousey from earlier this month. Are fighters like Jose Aldo (who has not fought since last October) or Dominick Cruz (last September) bound to lose for the first time in several years? That would mean Conor McGregor and T.J. Dillashaw, respectively, would become the undisputed kings of the featherweight and bantamweight divisions.

There is also Chris Weidman, a clean middleweight champion in a division that has been clouded over the years by failed drug tests from Anderson Silva, Vitor Belfort, Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva. His opponent at UFC 194 in about three weeks is Luke Rockhold, not an understated man (he has talked lots of trash over the years), but is he capable of being the man to finally hand Weidman his first defeat? Meanwhile, “Cowboy” Donald Cerrone will FINALLY have his first shot at a UFC championship when he has his rematch with Rafael dos Anjos on Fox next month.

411’s MMA Ranking Rules

– Which fighters are eligible for these rankings? They must meet the following qualifications: fight at least once in the past 365 days or if they have not, be officially scheduled for an upcoming fight.

– A fighter serving a disciplinary suspension will not be ranked. They can return when they have served their suspension or in the event it is rescinded. This includes fighters who may disregard their suspension locally to fight overseas.

– If a fighter appears on just one single ballot, and in the top ten, five points will be deducted to balance between other fighters who may be ranked lower, but appear on a greater amount of ballots.

– Want to complain about a fighter’s ranking in the comments section? Please include an objective reason why you despise the list, and try your best to bring the rest of us to your way of thinking.

411’s MMA Rankings

Pound For Pound

1) Jon “Bones” Jones (21-1)

Currently Fighting With: UFC

Last 5 fights:

– vs. Daniel Cormier – Win via decision (unanimous) – UFC 182: Jones vs. Cormier – January 3, 2015

– vs. Glover Teixeira – Win via decision (unanimous) – UFC 172: Jones vs. Teixeira – April 26, 2014

Next scheduled appearance:

– Unknown

Comment: Jon Jones has officially been reinstated by the UFC and if his social media is to be believed, it sounds like April 2016 is when his return to the octagon may be. The most controversial champion in recent memory, Jones was stripped of the light heavyweight title earlier this year when he was involved in a hit-and-run incident (this was about five months after he tested positive for cocaine, it turned out). Now, looking towards the future, Jones appears to be in the best physical shape of his life. He posted pictures of his new physique he worked on by powerlifting and if you didn’t know better, you could safely assume he had no body fat anymore.

2) Jose Aldo (25-1)

Height: 5’7

Birthday: September 9, 1986

Currently Fighting With: UFC

Last 5 fights:

– vs. Chad Mendes – Win via decision (unanimous) – UFC 179: Aldo vs. Mendes 2 – October 25, 2014

Comment: Is there any 125-pound fighter in the world who can stop Demetrious Johnson? Since dropping down to 125 in 2012, he is unbeaten and his championship defenses are not even close contests. His next challenger appears likely to be former U.S. Olympic wrestler Henry Cejudo, who improved to 10-0 Saturday with a win over Jussier da Silva.

Next scheduled appearance:

– Unknown

Comment: Cormier defended the UFC light heavyweight title for the first time in October when he bested Alexander Gustafsson in a five-round war. Now, he’ll have the opportunity to start a long training camp (after Thanksgiving, of course) wit the sole purpose to stop Jon Jones in the spring. It may not be a prolonged camp for that purpose just yet, but I don’t see how he spends every day in the gym without focusing on ways to beat the most dominant fighter of this generation.
