Hello everyone and welcome to 411mania’s LIVE coverage of UFC on ESPN+ 12, also known as UFC Greenville, because local branding. I’m Robert Winfree and I’ll be your host for the evening, relaying all of the action to you just as I see it. The UFC is making their debut in the state of South Carolina tonight, and they’ve brought a card that was never great to begin with and has suffered a few relevant fights falling out.

The main event is pretty solid as ranked featherweights Renato Moicano and Chan Sung Jung battle over five possible rounds. Moicano is coming off of a loss to Jose Aldo but has largely proven himself a top flight featherweight, he just can’t afford the loss here if he wants to move towards the title picture. Jung has previously fought for the title but is here more because he almost never has a boring fight. The co-main event is where somethings fell apart, a fight between Cody Stamann and Rob Font fell through when Stamann was injured and he was replaced by John Lineker. Lineker and Font were to be the co-main then Lineker got cut on the day of weigh ins and that fight now has to be rescheduled for a later date. Our new main event is Bryan Barberena vs. Randy Brown. The entire card is just eleven fights, which might be several year low in terms of number of fights for a UFC card.

The rest of the card isn’t all that great on paper, the UFC debut of Deron Winn might draw your attention if you’ve paid much notice to the amateur wrestling world, Andrea Lee vs. Montana De La Rosa is a mostly relevant fight, and for those interested in the quasi-obscure, Matt Wiman is coming back after a five or so year hiatus. Let’s all hope the action delivers in practice where the card falls short on paper.

As mentioned above the UFC is South Carolina, the city of Greenville more specifically in the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. On commentary we have Brendan Fitzgerald and soon to be UFC Hall of Fame inductee Michael Bisping while Brett Okamoto handles reporting duties. We are under the new rules, so you need both palms or fists flat on the mat to be considered downed (or a knee of course), extending fingers towards to your opponent is a foul regardless of contact being made, and the language around scoring is more encouraging of 10-8’s. There will be no use of instant replay tonight though. We’re starting off on ESPN2 for the prelims then will move to ESPN+ for the main card.

Minor correction, it looks like the prelims are on ESPN instead of ESPN2. I’m not sure when/how that happened but for me ESPN2 is showing old boxing classics while ESPN has the prelims.

Deron Winn is undefeated and makes his UFC debut here with a bit of hype given his wrestling credentials, he’s looking to make a good first impression to the UFC audience. Eric Spicely was cut from the UFC last year after an overall 2-4 run and a three fight losing streak, but he won two fights outside of the UFC and is the third different guy to be signed opposite Winn for this card. Spicely is definitely trying to prove he’s still a UFC caliber fighter. The odds are with Winn for this one at -310 against +250 for Spicely.

Middleweight Bout: Eric Spicely (12-4, 185.5 lbs.) vs. Deron Winn (5-0, 185.5 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Spicely is seven inches taller and has three inches of reach on Winn. They touch gloves to get things going. Winn is coming forward, Spicely looking to try and keep things long and circling. Spicely lands an overhand right. Left hook from Winn in close. Right to the body then a left hook from Winn, he closes distance very quickly. Winn off balances Spicely but doesn’t get too crazy looking for the finish. A few more rights from Winn are mostly blocked but he’s swinging with a lot of power. Spicely is trying to get his jab working, but Winn is finding counters and is pushing him into the fence. Knee from Spicely, Winn pushes him over but chooses not to follow him down. Winn with rights to the body before Spicely gets off of the fence. Leg kick from Winn. Winn digs to the body again then an overhand to counter a jab. More body shots from Winn but Spicely lands a knee to the head that wobbles him. Spicely lands an uppercut and then works from a Thai clinch, elbows and knees before they break. Winn punches Spicely towards the fence then lands a leg kick. Spicely lands a bit of a jumping knee then a right. Both men swing in close, then Winn misses a head kick as the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Winn

ROUND TWO: They touch gloves for the second round. Bit of a left then a right from Winn then he lands to the body. Winn lands a right and continues pressing the action. A body shot from Winn lands before Spicely circles away from the fence. The pressure from Winn is impressive, he’s good about punching in close and punishing Spicely. Body shots from Winn along the fence, then a right as Spicely circles free. Winn backs him to the fence again and there’s a bit of an exchange. Bit of a knee from Spicely then Winn lands to the body. They clinch up, Spicely lands an elbow as they break. Winn is back to punching Spicely to the cage and then patiently working him over from there. Winn isn’t going crazy with power shots, he’s working rather methodically but Spicely is being very solid with his defense. Both men land in close then Spicely lands a knee. More knees from Spicely then Winn punches free and lands a series of body shots then they break to the middle of the cage. Spicely lands a right to counter a body kick. Winn punches Spicely to the fence again and they engage in some in fighting then separate again. They just kind of circle away the final seconds.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Winn, 20-18 Winn overall

ROUND THREE: They touch gloves for the last round. More forward pressure from Winn, this time Spicely is trying to get his jab working. Winn pushes Spicely to the fence and is looking to tee off before Spicely moves away. Spicely lands a knee from a quick double collar tie and Winn backs up a bit. They trade left hooks but neither man goes down. The pressure is with Spicely now, and he blocks a takedown attempt. Winn is backing up now, they trade lefts in close then Spicely lands a bit of an uppercut. Thai clinch from Spicely and he lands a few knees before Winn gets him to the fence and forces a wrestling clinch. More knees from Spicely, Winn lands to the body and breaks then lands a few more punches. Winn is cut around the left eye from those knees. Body shot from Winn and he’s got Spicely on the fence again. Both guys are sucking a bit of wind but given the pace of this fight I can’t blame them. Winn lands a combination in close. Spicely lands a front kick to the face, Winn misses a high kick. This has been a pretty wild fight. Spicely with another knee, Winn lands a right as the clock runs down.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Spicely, 29-28 Winn overall

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Deron Winn via unanimous decision (29-28 x3)

Pretty good fight to kick things off. Winn gets some mic time, he says the fight was awesome and hopes they get the 50k. He says for everyone questioning if he’s too short for the division they can watch his legs walk him to the top. Asked about being rocked in the cage, he says that was the first time he’s been rocked in a fight but notes it happens in training so he’s prepared and was happy with the war.

A few highlights from that fight.

Ariane Lipski just had a nine fight winning streak broken when she made her UFC debut against Joanne Calderwood, now she’s trying to bounce back and get that all important first UFC win under her belt. Molly McCann is 1-1 in the UFC and coming off of a win, she’s trying to get her first UFC winning streak up and running. The odds are with Lipski at -270 to a +220 payout for a McCann win.

Women’s Flyweight Bout: Molly McCann (8-2, 126 lbs.) vs. Ariane Lipski (11-4, 126 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: McCann is an inch taller but Lipski has five inches of reach on her. A bit of circling to start, Lipski looking to fight long. McCann misses a few leg kicks. Bit of a one two from Lipski, she’s keeping McCann at the end of her reach. Inside leg kick from Lipski then a right. Body kick from Lipski. Knee from Lipski in close then she misses a left kick. McCann lands a loopy left that lands just on the end of her range. Both women land in close but when they hit the pocket McCann’s power hooks seem to be more effective. Lipski lands a body kick then a right. They trade leg kicks while looking for angles to attack from. Lipski lands a body kick. McCann keeps swinging her left hook but it’s missing more often than it lands. One two from Lipski lands then a leg kick. McCann goes to the left again, she’s doing a good job of countering the kicks for Lipski. Takedown from McCann into side control, she swings punches as Lipski gets full guard and then stands as the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-9 McCann

ROUND TWO: Lipski opens the second round with a front kick to the body. Body kick from Lipski but McCann is pressuring forward. McCann lands a leg kick. Leg kick from Lipski. Another body kick from Lipski. McCann misses a spinning back elbow. McCann lands to the body, she’s moving well. Lipski lands a head kick but McCann drops her with a counter right, McCann thinks about following her but instead makes her stand back up. McCann lands a left hook to counter an inside leg kick. Lipski lands another body kick but she’s fading a bit at this point. McCann lands a leg kick but eats a counter one two. Stepping right from McCann, then she gets a takedown into side control again. McCann moves to full mount, winds up in 3/4 mount and lands some punches as the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-9 McCann, 20-18 McCann overall

ROUND THREE: They touch gloves for the last round. McCann is circling so far, Lipski lands a bit of a right. Leg kick from McCann. Bit of a combination from Lipski then a leg kick. Another body kick from Lipski lands. McCann lands a right, but she’s cut in the hairline from some of Lipski’s offense. The cut isn’t in a bad spot, the blood is running down the side of her face and isn’t all that close to the eyes. They trade rights, and McCann is looking to get a brawl going. Lipski continues pressuring forward, but she can’t get a clinch that she tries for. Both women doing a bit of shadow boxing, they get close and we get some RoadHouse for the final couple of seconds.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Lipski, 29-28 McCann overall

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Molly McCann via unanimous decision (30-27 x3)

No real issues with McCann taking the third round. Mic time for McCann, she thanks her opponent and puts her over then plays a bit with the crowd. She says she loves to fight but had to fight tactically in this fight, then thanks the UFC brass as well as her coaches.

Allen Crowder has gone 1-1 in the UFC, but he’s coming off of a Disqualification win over Greg Hardy and is trying for his first UFC winning streak. Jarizinho Rozenstruik is undefeated and finished Junior Albini in his last fight, he’s looking to remain perfect as a professional and start working his way up the heavyweight ranks. Rozenstruik is the -220 favorite to +180 for Crowder.

Heavyweight Bout: Allen Crowder (10-3, 255 lbs.) vs. Jair Rozenstruik (7-0, 246 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Rozenstruik is an inch taller and has an inch and a half of reach on Crowder. They touch gloves to get us going. Rozenstruik lands a jab to off balance Crowder then he jumps on him and pounds him out incredibly quickly.

The First Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Rozenstruik for his work this evening. That’s the second fastest finish in UFC heavyweight history. Rozenstruik definitely gets some mic time after that, he says that’s his new fastest personal KO then thanks his opponent and the crowd for coming out. He thanks his coaches and team as well. He talks us through the finish, and says he’s feeling blessed, then says he trained hard for months for this spot.

Here’s the whole fight in case you missed it.

Matt Wiman has technically been with the UFC since 2006 and amassed a respectable 10-5 record before taking an extended medical related hiatus in 2014. Wiman is coming off of a win and is after his first UFC winning streak since 2012. Luis Pena has gone 2-1 in the UFC but is also coming off of a win and trying for that first UFC winning streak. Pena is a hefty -380 favorite to +300 on the returning Wiman.

Lightweight Bout: Luis Pena (6-1, 155.5 lbs.) vs. Matt Wiman (16-7, 155 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Pena is five inches taller, has seven inches of reach advantage, and is a full ten years younger than Wiman. Southpaw for Pena. Leg kicks from Wiman to start, looking to chop down the taller man. They clinch and Pena with some knees to the body and head with a Thai clinch. Elbow from Pena as they break and Wiman is bleeding a bit already. More inside leg kicks from Wiman, the ref wants the doctor to check that cut which is a pretty big one and just above the eyebrow. The doctor barely checks it but seems content that Wiman can continue. They clash and Wiman gets a takedown but Pena rolls through and is up, they trade punches then break. Pena has a head kick blocked. Wiman tries a single leg, winds up rolling under for a knee bar then tries for an inside heel hook but can’t secure it and Pena lands punches while looking to exit the leg entanglement. Pena stands and is looking to pass, Wiman keeps fishing for the leg lock but isn’t all that close to any of them and Pena is spinning free and landing offense. Pena moves to side control, Wiman hip escapes towards guard. Bit of an up kick from Wiman as Pena is standing over him. Wiman switches towards a low single leg, comes up but loses the position and Pena has his back standing. Pena kind of rides him down and gets on top then they scramble. Wiman tries to roll under again but again is smothered and Pena tees off with punches but Wiman is going to hold on for the end of the round.

SCORECARD: 10-8 Pena

ROUND TWO: That cut is pretty gnarly and the doctor wants another look at the cut. Wiman wants to keep fighting and the doctor thinks he can so we’re seeing a second round. More leg kicks from Wiman, Pena lands a couple of punches. Wiman is after a single leg, winds up pulling a guard variant but can’t get the legs really controlled so Pena gets free and makes him stand back up. Jumping knee from Pena is mostly blocked, Wiman fires back with punches. They trade rights then clinch up. Pena slips around to the back and rides Wiman down again and looks to land elbows from half guard. Now Pena is after an arm triangle, Wiman has half guard but he’s on the dangerous side and Wiman hits a reversal but Pena sweeps him again and is back on top. Nice scramble but Pena is still on top in half guard. Pena postures up and lands punches as Wiman gets full guard. Wiman is too content to play guard here, Pena keeps moving through and around it to land offense. Wiman tries for a toe hold but loses the grip and Pena elbows him a few times then moves to full mount. Back mount for Pena and he’s after the choke. Pena gets the body triangle and decides to just land punches as the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-8 Pena, 20-16 Pena overall

ROUND THREE: They touch gloves for the last round. Wiman lands an inside leg kick then a bit of a right. Pena lands a right hook. More leg kicks, both inside and out from Wiman. Pena lands a series of punches, Wiman stumbles and Pena is all over him along the fence. Pena just tees off and the ref waves this one off.

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Luis Pena via TKO, punches, at 1:14 of Round 3

The Final Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Pena for his work this evening. Pena on the mic, he puts over Wiman and calls this fight the toughest fight of his career. Asked who he’d like next he says whoever they put in front him, he doesn’t care as long as they get him closer to the title.

Here’s the finish, Wiman kept trying for most of the fight but was just on the wrong end of abuse for all of it.

Ashley Yoder has gone 1-3 in the UFC and just broke a three fight losing streak by taking a split decision win, now she’s trying to prove that she’s finally found her stride in the UFC. Syuri Kondo has gone 1-2 in the UFC and is on a two fight losing streak, she’s looking to break that streak and get back on the winning side of things. The odds are close but favor Yoder at -125 to -105 for Kondo.

Strawweight Bout: Ashley Yoder (6-4, 115.5 lbs.) vs. Syuri Kondo (6-2, 115.5 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Yoder has three inches of height and reach on Kondo. They touch gloves, Yoder is fighting southpaw. A couple of body kicks from Yoder land, Kondo returns one of them. They clinch up, Yoder gets a single leg and has Kondo down then moves to side control. Elbows from Yoder and she’s setting up an armbar attack, Kondo is able to defend that but eats more elbows. Kondo gives up her back and Yoder is happy to take it, just one hook in though. More punches and short elbows from Yoder as Kondo moves to a hip and gets half guard. Yoder lands more elbows, Kondo is able to kick her off but can’t get up and Yoder is still all over her on the mat. Back to side control for Yoder, then she gets the back again but again only has one hook in. Yoder is looking to get that second hook in but Kondo is defending that so far. There’s the second hook, Yoder postures up and lands punches while trying to open up the choke. Kondo gets one of the hooks out, Yoder spins for the armbar but can’t get it and winds up on top with more offense aimed at the body and head. She’ll just keep punching until the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-8 Yoder

ROUND TWO: They touch gloves for the second round. More kicks from Yoder, Kondo lands a bit of a right. Another body kick from Yoder, they clinch and trade knees then Kondo land some uppercuts. Yoder drops for a single leg but this time Kondo is able to push her head down and limp leg free then separate. More punches from Kondo as she avoids another takedown. Yoder eats a right and tries a single leg but gets it this time, Kondo is mostly free though and lands hammer fists but Yoder slips around to her back on the mat. Just one hook again for Yoder. Kondo keeps trying to reverse the position but Yoder has a seat belt position with her arms to keep control. There’s blood on Yoder’s face I can’t see the cut though. Yoder loses the hook she had but as Kondo tries to get up she pushes her over and lands elbows from the ride position then gets the back again with one hook. Yoder is keeping control more this time but she’s struggling more with her offense this round. Kondo gets the hook free but can’t get up, Yoder tries an armbar from the back but can’t get it and time then runs out.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Yoder, 20-17 Yoder overall

ROUND THREE: They touch gloves for the last round. Bit of a right from Kondo. Yoder looks a little tired, Kondo punches close and Yoder tries another single leg. Kondo defends this one with a front headlock, switches to a standing guillotine but Yoder is able to push her over and then gets her head out to end up on top. Yoder moves to the back, just one hook in again though. Full mount for Yoder and she looks to land offense while floating between the mount and the back. Kondo is able to get half guard, Yoder lands a few elbows and passes the guard to full mount. More punches from Yoder and she’s after the choke again but again Kondo is defending the choke. Yoder has both hooks in now, and locks up a body triangle. A few more punches from Yoder but I think she’s gassed her arms out at this point and she’s just going to pepper away until time runs out.

SCORECARD: 10-8 Yoder, 30-25 Yoder overall

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Ashley Yoder via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-25, 30-24)

No issues with any of that, utter dominance on the mat from Yoder. She gets some mic time and mentions she just wanted to work and while she wanted the finish thanks the judges for getting things right. Asked about the game plan she jokes that she’s a wrestler, she works a lot on that despite her ribs constantly popping out then expresses love to her mother.

Dan Ige has gone 3-1 in the UFC and is on a three fight winning streak, he’s trying to extend that to four in a row here and earn a step up in competition for his next bout. Kevin Aguilar is on a nine fight winning streak that includes two wins in the UFC, he’s trying to prove worthy of a step up in competition as well by extending his winning streak. The odds are with Aguilar at -145 to +115 for Ige.

Featherweight Bout: Dan Ige (11-2, 146 lbs.) vs. Kevin Aguilar (17-1, 145.5 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: These two are the same height while Aguilar has two inches of reach on Ige. They touch gloves to start things. Both men do a bit of feinting then Ige lands a right. Leg kick from Ige and he blocks a counter right. Ige lands another leg kick then Aguilar lands a right to the body. There’s blood from Aguilar now, the nose and a small cut around the left eye. Aguilar has a high kick blocked then Ige lands another leg kick. Both men have rights blocked. Ige lands a body shot then a left to the head to counter a leg kick. Aguilar avoids a takedown attempt. Ige lands a body kick then a left hook that drops Aguilar, he follows him down but can’t finish before Aguilar gets full guard. A few punches and elbows from Ige. Aguilar is trying to set something up on the arm of Ige but he can’t really get anything going while Ige keeps landing offense. A quick flurry from Ige lands but Aguilar is able to kick him off and land some punches of his own. Glancing high kick from Aguilar brings the round to a close.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Ige

ROUND TWO: Circling to start from Aguilar, he lands a bit of a head kick. Ige swings a right to the body, Aguilar counters with a right uppercut. Ige lands a right. Bit of a right from Aguilar. Double leg from Ige, well timed and he gets Aguilar down but Aguilar reverses the position and lands punches as Ige looks to initiate a scramble. Aguilar gets a reverse triangle and then a crucifix on the mat but Ige is able to get an arm free and get on top. Aguilar tries a triangle position, switches to an armbar that’s fairly tight but Ige works to step over the head and winds up in north-south on top. Elbow from Ige and a knee to the body. Side control for Ige but Aguilar then gets half guard. Ige lands a few short elbows and moves to full mount but Aguilar is able to use that motion to spin into him and get on top. Aguilar lands a few short elbows from the full guard of Ige. Body to head combinations from Aguilar, and a few elbows as he gets Ige stuffed up on the fence. Ige with a few elbows from his back, Aguilar responds in kind as the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Aguilar but a close one, 19-19 overall

ROUND THREE: Both men showing the lead hand early this round. Aguilar lands a leg kick. Body kick from Ige. Aguilar digs a couple of body shots in close then a left to the head. Ige lands a stiff jab. Ige tries a double leg, Aguilar pushes him over and is on top but Ige scrambles back up after taking just a couple of shots. Jab from Aguilar lands. Clubbing rights go back and forth. Ige lands a left hook, Aguilar is still pressing forward though. Jabs from Ige now, both guys seem to be gathering themselves for the last bit. Ige lands a right that wobbles Aguilar, Aguilar lands a body shot but Ige lands a left hook then a knee. More lefts from Ige, but Aguilar is still upright and firing back. Ige lands a jumping knee then a right but Aguilar swings back. Ige lands an uppercut then a left, I don’t know how Aguilar is still upright because he’s eaten some serious blows. Aguilar gets a single leg, Ige scrambles back up and lands a knee then a left that off balances Aguilar but he rolls through and is back up. Ige lands a jab. They get close and trade as the clock runs down.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Ige, 29-28 Ige overall

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Dan Ige via unanimous decision (29-27, 29-28 x2)

Good fight, and a good set of prelims all around. Mic time for Ige, he thanks Christ for giving him the victory and wants the fight to be remembered for pushing through, he was tired and had to dig deep just to get up for the third round. Asked who he’d like next he says he’s just going to keep winning, he would like a top fifteen opponent then says he’d like to put a whooping on Bryce Mitchell if a top fifteen guy isn’t free.

That’s it for prelims, we’re on to ESPN+ for the main card.

Wheel kick from Holland is partially successful and they clinch up again. Some body work from Holland but Di Chirico turns him into the fence. Elbow from Di Chirico, Holland lands a knee to the body. They both miss elbows as they break. Holland lands a long left. Di Chirico lands a body kick then a right. They clinch again, Di Chirico lands an elbow that wobbles Holland and he trips Holland down. A few more elbows from Di Chirico, Holland is back up but misses a head kick as the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Di Chirico

ROUND TWO: Holland is showing the lead hand, and misses a few side kicks aimed at the leg. They trade leg kicks then Holland pushes into another clinch. Neither man is doing a whole lot here, Holland keeps landing hammer fists to the thigh which might be the least effective technique employed in MMA. Di Chirico lands an elbow. Holland gets a bit of a body lock but can’t keep it. Some knees to the body from Holland, Di Chirico spins free and lands a couple of punches before they clinch again. Di Chirico lands another couple of elbows as they break. Double leg from Holland but Di Chirico bounces back up. Elbows from Di Chirico as they break then a right that lands solidly. Holland is backing up again, Di Chirico pushes forward and gets a clinch of his own. They break without incident this time. Di Chirico lands a leg kick but eats a counter right. Another right to counter a leg kick from Holland. Holland has basically stopped moving, Di Chirico lands a left. Another bit of a left from Di Chirico lands. One more combination from Di Chirico lands to end the round. Holland is grabbing at his right shoulder as the round ends.

ROUND THREE: Holland complained of a popped shoulder between rounds, his corner had to pop it back in behind the refs back. The doctor is in to check the shoulder, but whatever the corner did made is so he can continue. They touch gloves for the last round. Di Chirico is going southpaw at the moment, Holland lands a side kick to the body. They clash on leg kicks. There’s such a lack of activity the ref encourages both men and wants to double check the shoulder of Holland. Both men working kicks at distance but neither man really finding much. Bit of a right hook from Di Chirico. Holland lands a leg kick. Leg kick from Di Chirico then a bit of a looping right. Di Chirico lands a right then a bit of a counter left. A few side kicks from Holland land but neither man is doing a whole lot. Di Chirico lands a leg kick then a bit of a right. Another leg kick from Di Chirico. Di Chirico blocks a takedown attempt and misses a spinning kick. Di Chirico lands a right then gets a double leg along the fence. Holland tries to wall walk, he’s back up and boxes the ears of Di Chirico as time runs out.

I don’t agree with that at all. Holland on the mic, he says the shoulder has been an issue and he did it when he went for a takedown and that Di Chirico has a body built to defend. He mocks Di Chirico a bit for being a sore loser then congratulates Bisping on the Hall of Fame to end his mic time.

Andrea Lee is on a six fight winning streak that includes two wins in the UFC, she’s trying to extend that streak and assert herself in the title picture sooner rather than later. Montana De La Rosa is on a four fight winning streak that includes three wins in the UFC, she’s looking to knock off a fellow ranked contender and move towards the title as well. Lee is the -200 favorite against +170 for De La Rosa.

Women’s Flyweight Bout: #10 Andrea Lee (10-2, 125 lbs.) vs. #11 Montana De La Rosa (10-4, 126 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: De La Rosa is an inch taller while Lee has an inch and a half of reach on her. De La Rosa is probing with the lead hand, Lee lands a jab. Both women land inside leg kicks. De La Rosa fades away from a right and lands a bit of a left hook. Lee lands a solid leg kick. A couple of body shots from Lee in close then a leg kick. Jab from Lee lands, and another one. Another leg kick from Lee then a stiff left that stuns De La Rosa. De La Rosa gets a double leg after that exchange and mounts the lets near the fence. Lee wall walks but De La Rosa holds a body lock for the moment. Lee is able to pummel an arm in and land a few knees to the body. They break after a few more knees go back and forth. Lee lands a body kick, De La Rosa gets a takedown but Lee is back up again immediately and they’re on the fence. Lee spins free and they separate. De La Rosa is circling, eats a right but they clinch up again. Lee is able to pummel with her again and lands a few more knees before they break. Lee is walking forward, lands a jab then a knee after blocking a takedown attempt. Single leg from Lee and she’ll end the round on top.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Lee

ROUND TWO: Both women come out jabbing again, Lee blocks a right. Lee is stalking forward and lands a leg kick. Lee jabs then blocks a double leg attempt. De La Rosa sticks with this one but can’t finish it and they hit the fence. De La Rosa drives her towards a knee, Lee bounces back up and they’re still clinched. Lee spins free without incident, though now De La Rosa is bleeding from the nose. Jabs from Lee then a body shot. Leg kick from Lee. Lee lands a knee to the face off of a brief clinch. Lee lands a left hook and evades a counter. Hard body kick from Lee, she’s just abusing De La Rosa at distance. Another knee to the body from Lee. Lee sprawls away from a takedown attempt then lands a knee to the body before they break apart. More jabs from Lee now, then a one two and a partially blocked high kick. De La Rosa catches a kick and gets a takedown along the fence but Lee is up and fighting a high crotch attempt. Lee defends, then forces a break. Left hook from Lee, then she goes for a takedown against the fence, decides against it and they end the round fighting in the clinch.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Lee, arguably a 10-8, 20-18 Lee overall

ROUND THREE: De La Rosa nose is bleeding and her left eye is swelling up. Lee comes out and lands a leg kick. Knees from Lee in close then a body kick. One two from Lee then De La Rosa lands a body kick. De La Rosa lands a right to the body, they clinch and she gets a trip takedown against the cage. Lee is looking to wall walk, De La Rosa is trying to keep her down. De La Rosa moves to the ride position, Lee is back up though and is able to force things chest to chest. They break without incident and Lee is back to stalking forward. Lee lands a jab then some knees to the body off of a brief clinch. Lee lands a right then De La Rosa has to block a high kick. Bit of a head kick lands from Lee but she’s off balance and De La Rosa is able to push her over and get on top but Lee hits a low single reversal. De La Rosa is after a power guillotine but Lee is able to get her head free and De La Rosa goes for a rubber guard position. Lee postures through that position though. De La Rosa is trying to get her hips in play, Lee stands and lands body shots then a right to the head before going into the guard again. Another armbar attempt from De La Rosa but Lee pulls her arm free and lands hammer fists. More punches from Lee and she is able to pass through a temporary donkey guard, moves to north-south and De La Rosa has to roll to her knees. Lee gets the back with both hooks in, lands an elbow as the round ends.

I’m not sure what round could go to De La Rosa. Lee now has tied Valentina Shevchenko for longest active winning streak in the division. Mic time for Lee now, who says it’s hard to fight a former training partner and puts over De La Rosa generally. She says the key to her success is her desire to push, she’s working hard for her daughter and knows this is her only real shot. Asked who she’d like next she defers to the UFC matchmakers.

Andre Ewell just had a five fight winning streak snapped by Nathaniel Wood, his UFC record stands at 1-1 and he’s looking to get that above the .500 mark in this bout. Anderson dos Santos lost his UFC debut and is now looking for that all important first UFC win. The odds favor dos Santos at -125 to a tempting value bet for a -105 payout on Ewell.

Bantamweight Bout: Andre Ewell (14-5, 135 lbs.) vs. Anderson dos Santos (20-7, 135.5 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Ewell is three inches taller and has a whopping five inches of reach advantage. They touch gloves, Ewell fighting southpaw. Both men doing some feinting, Ewell lands a right hook. Dos Santos is pushing forward, he runs into a left hook then a right hand. Ewell lands a one two and eats a bit of a counter right. More jabs from Ewell, he’s using the reach disparity to his advantage while dos Santos is falling a little short with his punches. Clubbing right from Ewell stuns dos Santos for a second. Ewell lands a one two, then another straight left. Another straight left from Ewell, dos Santos has had enough of that and shoots a double leg that stalls out on the fence. Ewell is staying upright as dos Santos is really trying to get this takedown but can’t secure it and they separate. They clash in close and both men land some heavy leather but Ewell is still getting the better of these exchanges. Pull back counter left from Ewell wobbles dos Santos badly and now he’s pressing forward and looking for the finish. The counter game of Ewell is on point, he’s drawing out dos Santos and then countering him consistently. One more left from Ewell will bring the round to a close.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Ewell, maybe 10-8

ROUND TWO: They touch gloves for the second round. Ewell is back to jabbing and walking dos Santos on to punches. Bit of a left for Ewell. Dos Santos tries a low single leg, but can’t finish it. Inside leg kicks go back and forth. Both men land in close. We get time as dos Santos complains of an eye poke. Replay confirms the poke and dos Santos is getting double checked by the doctor. The doctor says he can continue and we’re back to fighting. They trade power hand punches but again Ewell is landing better. Ewell lands a body kick. Dos Santos tries to blitz but can’t corral Ewell. Right hook then a straight left from Ewell lands. Combination from Ewell lands then a body kick. Dos Santos’ face is all busted up, the hand speed of Ewell is giving him all kinds of problems. Dos Santos shoots a double leg and this time gets things to the mat along the fence. Ewell tries to wall walk, dos Santos passes to half guard then side control and in to full mount, Ewell scrambles and is able to escape when dos Santos sold out for an armbar attempt and we’re back on the feet. Ewell lands another straight left. Ewell lands a right hook, dos Santos postures and we get an exchange of gestures as the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Ewell, 20-18 Ewell overall

ROUND THREE: There’s some minor marking under the eyes of Ewell, by contrast dos Santos is very damaged to the face. They hug to start the last round. Ewell lands a left. Series of punches from Ewell in close, that hand speed from Ewell. They both land but Ewell is landing better and in higher volume. Dos Santos tries a takedown but can’t get it, he keeps coming forward though and wont bet deterred. Double leg from dos Santos and he’s got Ewell down in full guard this time. Ewell is trying to set up a wall walk but dos Santos is all over him. Half guard now for dos Santos, he lands a bit of a right. Dos Santos is trying to set up a d’arce, he uses the threat of his arm around the neck to pass to full mount. Elbow from dos Santos, Ewell is looking ot bridge off of the fence and does, he’s back up and dos Santos digs to the body and keeps the clinch. Dos Santos is after another double leg, he can’t quite finish it though. Knees from dos Santos to the leg before Ewell is able to pull free. Ewell lands a left. They get close and have one more exchange of punches in the pocket as the clock runs all the way down.

Mic time for Ewell, he plays with the crowd a bit and is clearly a happy man. He gives love to his son, then talks about thinking through the basics and not getting crazy in the third round when he was in a bad spot.

Bryan Barberena has gone 5-4 in the UFC and is coming off of a loss to Vicente Luque in one of the crazier fights so far this year, now he’s trying to avoid his first UFC losing streak and get back on the winning side of things. Randy Brown has gone 4-3 in the UFC and is coming off of a loss to Niko Price where he was knocked out with hammer fists from the bottom, he’s trying to avoid his first ever losing streak. The odds are with Barberena at -260 to a +210 payout for Brown.

Welterweight Bout: Bryan Barberena (14-6, 170 lbs.) vs. Randy Brown (10-3, 170.5 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Brown is three inches taller and has five and a half inches of reach on Barberena. They touch gloves, Barberena is fighting southpaw. Brown is stalking forward, feinting with the lead hand and lead leg. Bit of a body kick from Brown. Calf kick from Barberena. Another leg kick from Barberena lands. Now and inside leg kick from Barberena. Brown lands a left hook but misses the follow ups. Barberena avoids a high kick. Another inside leg kick from Barberena, that wobbles the leg of Brown. Brown responds with a couple of body kicks that really had some steam on them. Barberena lands another couple of inside calf kicks. Brown lands an inside leg kick then a straight left. Barberena avoids a high kick then checks a leg kick. Brown lands a couple of jabs then Barberena lands a body kick. Brown uses that kick to push into a clinch but can’t get a position he likes so bails on it. Barberena takes an eye poke, he doesn’t want much time though and Brown gets a bit of a warning from the ref. Barberena lands a left, he’s walking forward and they trade body kicks. Elbow from Barberena in close as Brown gets a clinch. A few knees from Brown as Barberena lands short blows to the head. The round comes to a close in that position.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Brown but a close one

ROUND TWO: They touch gloves for the second round. Barberena opens with leg kicks and he’s coming forward a lot more this round. Brown is circling away, he falls short on a few punches. Inside leg kick from Barberena. Barberena avoids a body kick and gets a clinch on the fence. They jockey for position, Barberena lands a few knees to the body and Brown returns one before they break. Another clinch, Barberena is landing short elbows and turns Brown to the fence. Brown is able to duck around to the back, lands an elbow to the back of Barberena’s head then they get chest to chest and trade offense. Barberena gets a hold of the neck and Brown falls down to release the pressure, Barberena gets some offense on him before he gets up and they separate. Barberena ducks under a punch and gets close then lands uppercuts to the body and head. Knees from Barberena as they jockey for position. Brown lands an elbow as they break. They trade power hand punches then Brown lands a front kick to the body. Barberena lands a few calf kicks, Brown tries a flying knee that just winds up in a clinch on the fence. Short elbows from Barberena and body shots, he’s trying to wear down Brown with pace and pressure. They break and Barberena lands a left then a body kick just as the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Barberena, 19-19 overall

ROUND THREE: Barberena is coming forward again, lands a series of calf kicks that get Brown to switch stances for a moment. Brown lands a right uppercut. Barberena punches in close but Brown is able to circle away from the fence. Double jab then a right from Brown land and Barberena lands another calf kick. They both land in close. There’s a clinch then Barberena lands an elbow. Brown lands a couple of punches that wobble Barberena and we get some brawling in the pocket before they break apart. Brown with body shots, Barberena is hurt to the body and Brown is looking to tee off. Blows to the body and head from Brown before they clinch, then a knee to the body and he finally drops him with another body shot and that gets the stoppage.

The Final Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Brown for his work this evening. Mic time for Brown after that win, he talks about his grandmother who passed away Tuesday and dedicates the fight to her. He jokes that everyone picked Barberena, and says he wants to fight a top fifteen opponent because he’s going to get better every time he steps into the cage.

Here’s the finish. Barberena is already hurt to the body and Brown had been investing in body work all fight, this is just all of that paying off as the left to the body shuts Barberena down.

Renato “Moicano” Carneiro has lost just twice in the UFC, to Brian Ortega and all time great Jose Aldo. He’s coming off of the Aldo loss though and if he wants to make another move towards the title he needs to avoid his first losing streak while defending his top ranking. Chan Sung Jung is coming off of a loss to Yair Rodriguez and if he wants to move back into title contention he needs a win here over a top ranked opponent. Carneiro is your -190 favorite to a +160 comeback on Jung.

Featherweight Bout: #5 Renato “Moicano” Carneiro (13-2-1, 146 lbs.) vs. #12 Chan Sung Jung (14-5, 146 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Carneiro has four inches of height on Jung but the reach is identical. They touch gloves to get us going. Both men probing a bit with the lead hand, Jung then lands a leg kick. Jung lands a right that drops Carneiro, the follows him down and gets full mount then the back with both hooks in. Jung flattens out Carneiro and pounds him out.

The First Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Jung for his work this evening. Jung gets an interview, and just hugs Bisping outright to get it going. He says he’s practiced that combination a lot and is glad to have displayed it here. Asked about what he wants next, he says it doesn’t matter he’s just happy to fight. He seems pleased with his work watching the replay then thanks everyone for coming out, thanks those who made the long trip from South Korea, thanks Korean Top Team for all of their early work, and a lot of other of his new team for getting him to this point.

This isn’t the actual finish, but the right that basically ends things. Jung slips the jab from Carneiro and lands a lovely intercepting right, clips him with a left on the way down and then never lets him off of the hook.

That will bring this night of fights to a close. Nothing that will really stick with me in a few weeks I think, but I’m not complaining about pretty much anything on this card. Nice to be rewarded for being the kind of guy who watches fight cards like this every now and then. I hope you all enjoyed the action as well as my coverage.
