The Ultimate Fighter 27: Episode FOUR
INTRODUCTION: Season 27 of the Ultimate Fighter is here. This season will feature undefeated featherweights and lightweights, with current UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic against current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier serving as the coaches ahead of their upcoming fight. There will be a lightweight and a featherweight winner. Last week, Luis Pena defeated Jose Martinez Jr. via decision. This week, we get featherweights Bryce Mitchell (9-0) vs. Jay Cucciniello (8-0).

– Team Cormier celebrates last week’s win, which put them up 3-0 on the show so far. Cormier has to leave, due to hometown commitments, and is putting Cain Velasquez in charge of prepping Bryce Mitchell for his fight.

– Back at the house, last week’s winner, Luis Pena is limping badly, due to a foot injury. He’s worried the injury could take him out of the house. His foot is horribly swollen.

– Jay Cucciniello trains and talks about wanting to beak Team Miocic’s losing streak, leading to footage of him fighting in Spain. He discusses his brother’s death, which happened ahead of his 5th fight (he’s 8-0).

– Back at the house, Bryce Mitchell cuts a limb off of a tree and is making a bow and arrows. That seems safe. We see home video of Bryce Mitchell being a redneck and killing a wild cat and eating it. His girlfriend is also a fighter and they met at the gym. He praises his mother, who raised him on her own. She instructs him to not get any trashy red neck tattoos.

– Cucciniello discusses serving in Afghanistan, and being the victim of a roadside bemiring twice while there. He joined the army at age 16, and served for 6-years, fighting the Taliban. He lost 9 friends over there, and when he got out, got into MMA. He loves his life in Spain.

– Mitchell talks dreams of tackling a baby dear, and taking selfies with it. We get clips of him training. He admits to being a “ghetto fighter,” doing whatever it takes to win. We get footage of his fights outside of the house.

– We now see Pena breaking down and getting emotional over his foot injury, and there may be a fracture. If there is he may be done. He’s devastated because he’s worked so hard to get here. He goes for an X-ray, and is worried. He has a fracture and has to wear a splint; he’s out for 4-6 weeks. Cormier calls him with words of encouragement. Cormier comes off as such a good dude. Pena promises to keep motivating team Cormier. Pena calls a team meeting and informs them of the news.

WEIGH-INS: Mitchell (145.25), Cucciniello (144.5).

– We get the usual pre-fight warm-ups.

FEATHERWEIGHT BOUT: Bryce Mitchell (9-0) vs. Jay Cucciniello (8-0): ROUND ONE: Mitchell is 8 years younger, three inches taller, and has a half inch reach advantage. They come out, circle and Cucciniello starts laying in leg kicks. Mitchell backs him down and lands body kicks. Mitchell looks to keep it close, flashing jabs and continuing to back Cucciniello off. They trade, and Mitchell lays in kicks and presses Cucciniello to the cage. He then gets a takedown, and takes Cucciniello’s back. he gets the hooks in but Cucciniello counters out and backs off. Cucciniello lands a combo, they trade and Mitchell backs him off with kicks and gets another takedown. He takes the back again and lays in ground and pound. He then work into half guard, laying in more strikes and takes the back once again. He lands good and clean strikes to end the round from the triangle position. SCORE: Mitchell 10-9

ROUND TWO: Round two begins and Mitchell immediately takes Cucciniello down. He has the back again, and gets the choke as he tries to flatten Cucciniello out. Cucciniello escapes the choke, but Mitchell maintains control and continues to work for the choke again. Good defense by Cucciniello, but he can’t get Mitchell off of his back. Mitchell is largely grapplefucking him here as he continues to stay busy with strikes and again go for the choke. Cucciniello manages to stay out of the choke, but Mitchell maintains control with ease. Mitchell looks for an arm bar, Cucciniello counters and escapes but Mitchell gets the back again and that’s that as the round ends. SCORE: Mitchell 10-9, 20-18 overall. OFFICIAL RESULT: Bryce Mitchell via unanimous decision (20-17, 20-17, 20-18)

– Dana meets with Pena and sympathizes with him. Pena begs for a shot when he’s healthy, and White says he’ll fight on the finale card if he’s healthy.

– Team Cormier has won all four fights so far.

– Dulani Perry talks a bunch of shit to Team Cormier, talking about his $20,000 Rolex. Team Cormier thinks he’s a star fucking scrub.
