Anderson Silva Suspended One Year By USADA After Tainted Supplement Revealed

Anderson Silva has accepted a one-year suspension for his anti-doping violation after the positive test was traced to a tainted supplement. MMAjunkie reports that Silva has accepted the punishment in relation to his November 2017 positive test for separate methyltestosterone metabolites and the diuretic hydrochlorothiazide. He will be eligible to fight again on November 10th of this year.

“The past nine months have been extremely difficult,” Silva said in a statement. “I felt like my career and everything I had worked so hard for was dying and my future was hanging in the balance. I knew in my heart that I had done nothing wrong and fully cooperated with USADA during their inquiry to prove it.”

USADA said that they had examined a “compounded dietary supplement product” Silva was using and found the banned substances, then purchased “numerous supplement products” from the pharmacy that prepared it. Those products were “similarly contaminated with prohibited substances, including multiple anabolic agents and diuretics.”
