Cat Zingano Discusses Anxiety Over Gameplanning

July 2, 2016 | Posted by Larry Csonka

– Cat Zingano recently spoke with mmajunkie.com, here are the highlights…

On Her Time Off: “I knew before I fought Ronda [Rousey] I was gonna take a break regardless of the outcome. I wanted to come back on a healthy angle … and heal, physically and emotionally, and get back in there when I was feeling happy and excited.”

On Making Changes: “I just thought some environmental changes could be helpful,” offered Zingano. “I started coming out here with this blank slate, and I’m kind of re-defining myself as a fighter and as an athlete.”

On Anxiety Over Gameplanning: “Before, I’ve always just had a ton of heart and a ton of will, which gets me through these fights, … but ultimately, as soon as the octagon door would close, I would just hit up instincts,” Zingano said. “This is one of the first fights I’ve gameplanned [for]. I’ve always kind of had an anxiety toward gameplanning, because I tend to just kind of switch into ‘go mode,’ and everything that we’ve planned just goes out the door. [Dominick Cruz has] come in and given me pointers; it’s super, super motivational,” Zingano said. “The part that I feel like he’s been the most influential on is just the mindset of a champion of his caliber, showing me the work ethic that I want to live up to.”
