Combate Americas Signs Deal With Azteca TV

October 26, 2016 | Posted by Joseph Lee

MMA Fighting reports that Combates America has signed a deal with Spanish-language TV channel Aztecas to air in both the US and Mexico. The network airs as TV 7 in Mexico and Azteca America in the US. Combates America will air live monthly cards through the deal.

The first event happens on January 19 at the Gran Teatro Moliere in Mexico City on Jan. 19. It features a rematch between John Castaneda and Gustavo Lopez, with the winner becoming the inaugural bantamweight champion. The two last fought on October 14 in Verona, New York, where Castaneda won by fifth-round TKO. The problem was that he missed weight and so the title was not on the line.

Combate Americas founder and CEO Campbell McLaren said: “Our partnership with Azteca will take Combate Americas to the next level. I was there for the beginning of the UFC and saw how critical the correct television partner is to the growth of the franchise. Azteca has incredible reach in both the U.S. and Mexico, which is why this is such an exciting time for us.

There will also be a weekly show called Combate Americas Azteca with highlights of past fight cards. It debuts on November 3 at 10 PM ET. Live events will also be available in English through UFC Fight Pass.
