Conor McGregor’s return to the Octagon against Dustin Poirier has become one step close to being official, as he’s agreed with the UFC on a date. McGregor took to Twitter to state that he accepts Dana White’s offer for him to face Poirier on January 23rd, 2021.

White had told ESPN that McGregor’s demand for any such fight to take place in 2020 wasn’t possible, saying, “We offered him a fight, we got him his own date. We didn’t have a date this year. We have everything laid out for this year, with world champions fighting for titles. He wants to fight Dustin Poirier apparently, so we went to ESPN and got him his own date. He’s been offered Dustin Poirier on Jan. 23. It’s a yes or no answer.”

Following those comments, McGregor posted:

“I accept, Jan. 23 is on! My goal is to see this fight take place in Cowboy stadium. Proper Style! Jerry Jones is a friend and the stadium can hold our crowd. I will be ready for Texas and Texas will be ready for my fans! Then Manny.”

The fight is not official yet; White has not confirmed the location, and as of now no contracts appear to have been sent out. He did say previously though that he doesn’t want to host UFC events with fans until arenas are up to capacity. The AT&T Stadium currently has a 25% capacity for fans.

If the fight does happen, it will be McGregor’s return fight after saying in June that he was retired, which his third time having done so.
