Conor McGregor has confirmed on Instagram that he had been originally scheduled to fight at UFC 224. McGregor posted to his social media account to commemorate his placing in the top five among Forbes’ list of 2018’s highest-paid athletes. In the process, he notes that he was set to compete on the May 12th show.

“Made it to number four on the Forbes list this year,” he wrote. “If I had of fought on the agreed May 12 bout in Rio de Janeiro, I would have surpassed (Cristiano) Ronaldo and (Lionel) Messi to take second place.”

That card was main evented by a fight between Amanda Nunes and Raquel Pennington. Previous reports suggested that McGregor was planned to face Rafael dos Anjos for the interim welterweight title.
