Dana White Reveals ‘Interesting’ Matchup in the Works for Jorge Masvidal Other Than Title Fight With Kamaru Usman

During a recent interview with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto (h/t MMAjunkie), UFC President Dana White revealed that the UFC has something “interesting” in the works for BMF champion Jorge Masvidal. It appears that “interesting” option does not involve a title matchup with reigning welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.

Speaking on Jorge Masvidal, White stated, “We’re talking about a few different things. We have something else interesting for Masvidal, too, that we were just talking about (Thursday). We’ll see.”

White went on to say that it will depend on how things play out with the next three UFC cards scheduled for May. He added, “We’ll see how this whole thing plays out – locations and how fast. To start speculating down the road right now is too soon. Let’s get by these three fights in Florida and we’ll figure out what’s next. We’re talking about different possibilities with those guys.”

Earlier in the year, White had spoken about matching up Usman vs. Masvidal for a title fight for July, likely for International Fight Week. However, the coronavirus pandemic and the stay-at-home shutdowns and orders likely waylaid a number of those plans.

Currently, Usman and Masvidal do not have fights officially lined up on the horizon. Masvidal last fought at UFC 244 in November. He beat Nate Diaz in a third-round doctor stoppage to win the UFC BMF Championship.
