Daniel Cormier Says He Still Wants to Defend His Light Heavyweight Title

July 12, 2018 | Posted by Jeffrey Harris

During an appearance on UFC Tonight this week, UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier responded to a challenge from Yoel Romero on Twitter for Cormier’s light heavyweight title. Currently, Cormier holds both the UFC Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight Championships after beating Stipe Miocic for the heavyweight title at UFC 226 last Saturday. Below are some highlights and a video of Cormier’s appearance on UFC Tonight this week.

Cormier on Yoel Romero and why he shouldn’t get moved up to a title shot: “Here’s the deal: I never wrestled Yoel Romero, but in wrestling he probably would have served me up. He’s one of the great wrestlers of all time. But, you don’t fail a class and then get moved up a grade to the next one.”

Cormier’s thoughts on Sonnen getting a title shot and setting a precedent: “Chael Sonnen did that one time, but I don’t know what was going on. Chael has a way of doing that. Let’s just say that.”

Daniel Cormier on wanting to defend both of his titles: “I don’t want them to take one of these belts. So I will defend it. I will defend the light heavyweight title if the right fight presents itself.”
