Floyd Mayweather On Conor McGregor: “He’s better than I thought”

Following Floyd Mayweather’s 10th round TKO of Conor McGregor on Saturday night (our full report), the now 50-0 Mayweather gave credit to McGregor.

“He’s a lot better than I thought he was,” Mayweather said. “He’s a tough competitor, but I was the better man tonight. Our game plan was to take our time, go to him, let him shoot all his heavy shots early, then take him out down the stretch.”

Mayweather also confirmed that this was his final fight, and that he will now retire at 50-0.

McGregor said afterwards that he was just tired and didn’t believe ref Robert Byrd should have stopped the fight, adding that if he was going to lose, he would rather hit the ground than have the ref stop the fight as he was getting punched.

“He’s composed – he’s not that fast, he’s not that powerful, but boy is he composed in there,” McGregor said. “I thought it was close, though, and I thought it was a bit of an early stoppage. I was just a little fatigued. He was just a lot more composed with his shots. I have to give it to him, that’s what 50 pro fights will do for you.”

He also added that he plans to return to UFC now to defend his titles.

Here’s the finish the fight.
