Jon Jones Says He’s Giving Up UFC Title, Dana White Says Jones’ Future Is In His Own Hands

Jon Jones seems to be serious about walking away from the UFC, giving up his title, and Dana White seems okay with that. After Jones tweeted on Sunday a confirmation to a fan that he was giving up the title, White sounded off in the latest salvo of back and forths between Jones and himself.

“Jon Jones is one of the greatest to ever do it,” White said (per The Vancouver Courier). “The decision he wants to make regarding his career is up to him. The reality is that he’s made enough money from fighting that he’s now in the position to retire and never work again in his life.”

Jones has been vocal about his issues with the UFC in recent days, claiming that his hoped-for superfight with Francis Ngannou fell through because the UFC refused to pay him more for it before numbers even came into the discussion. White has disputed that, saying that Jones wanted “Deontay Wilder money” to a range of $20 million to $30 million.

Jones denied those figures and demanded on Sunday that he be released from his UFC contract. He later confirmed that he was vacating the belt, as you can see below:
