Jon Jones Calls Daniel Cormier’s Claim as a Double Champion a ‘Freaking Joke,’ Challenges Cormier to One More Fight

UFC 214 - Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier

It appears the feud between former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and current UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is far from over. Jones continued the rivalry yesterday on Twitter, addressing some of Cormier’s recent comments directed at him made on The Jim Rome Podcast. You can check out Jones’ tweets responding to Cormier below.

During the Rome podcast appearance, Cormier addressed Jon Jones’ defense of his most recent failed drug test after their title fight at UFC 214. Jones initially won the fight via knockout, but it was later overturned to a No Contest after Jones failed a drug test for the fight. Jones would later defend the failed test citing the amounts that were found in his system were like a “pinch of salt” in an “olympic-sized swimming pool. Regarding Jones, Cormier stated the following:

“My deal’s this, I never once said he didn’t win the fight. I’ve [never] said that. Even when people would tell me ‘no you didn’t get a fair shake, it’s not cool, he cheated’, I said the guy won the fights. Because I’ve always said, I’m sure he’s not the only guy I’ve ever fought who’s on steroids. I’ve always said that. I’ve been very open about that. But when you say a pinch of salt — why was the pinch of salt there? Why was it there with no explanation of why it got there? That’s my question. Why didn’t I have a pinch of salt in the swimming pool? That’s where my issue is. You win the fight, go ahead and win the fight but don’t leave anything to question is my response. Don’t have a pinch of salt. Don’t have tainted sex pills. Just don’t have that stuff and then we never have these discussions to discredit the things that you have done. That’s my response.”

Jones later wrote on Twitter, “‘Pinch of salt, no pinch of salt. You still had steroids in your system in a fist fight,’ Cormier stated. ‘Not cool.’ Daddys baby still out there whining, What proud ‘double Champion’ just vacates his belt because someone else returns to the sport?”

He later continued by calling Cormier’s claim as a double champion a “freaking joke.” He added by challenging Cormier to another fight: “Fight me one more time and prove you’re actually the champ champ. I’ll donate $100,000 to a charity in San Diego if you accept. Conor McGregor was an actual double Champ, the whole world knows your claim is a freaking joke. You’re more than welcome to be my first title defense.”

Jon Jones is set to fight for the title again later this month at UFC 232. He will be facing Alexander Gustafsson in a title rematch from their classic bout at UFC 165 in 2013.

UFC 232 is set for December 30. The event will be held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main card will be broadcast live on pay-per-view.
