Khabib Nurmagomedov Suggests He May Return to UFC In September
Khabib Nurmagomedov is back in Russia weathering out the COVID-19 pandemic, but he’s hinted that his UFC return could come by the fall. Nurmagomedov was set to face Tony Ferguson in a lightweight title defense at UFC 249 until he had to pull out due to the coronavirus situation. He has previously suggested that he hoped the fight would be pushed back to August, but now he’s saying September seems like a likely return.
In a post on Instagram in Russian, Nurmagomedov said (roughly translated), “September is not so far away, although it’s hard to believe that everything will end by then. However, one serious person said that in peacetime it is necessary to prepare for war.”
UFC 249 has, of course, since been postponed, though Dana White has promised that his so-called “Fight Island” that he bought to hold UFC events at is real, with UFC fights on the way.
