ESPN’s Ariel Helwani revealed on yesterday’s edition of ESPN Radio’s The MMA Reporters that UFC fighter Colby Covington reached out to Kurt Angle to ask for permission to use Angle’s famous entrance theme music for his UFC fight this weekend. You can check out that clip from this week’s show below.

According to Helwani, Covington reached to Kurt Angle through a mutual friend to ask for permission to use Angle’s iconic theme song for his upcoming main event fight against Robbie Lawler. Helwani stated, “He has asked Kurt if he can use that song because he wants people to chant ‘You suck!’ as he makes his way to the cage. So, that’s a guy who clearly is very comfortable being booed.”

Covington is known for his outspoken trash talk as of late and likes to play up wrestling heel-like persona. He’s followed the example of other former UFC fighters, such as Chael Sonnen, who would frequently emulate pro wrestlers or pro wrestling promos as part of his act.

Covington is set to face former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler later this Saturday, August 3 in the main event at UFC on ESPN 5. The fight card will held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The main card and prelims will be broadcast live on ESPN.
