Nik Lentz Releases Statement on Cancelled UFC 216 Bout

October 7, 2017 | Posted by Jeffrey Harris

As previously reported, the planned lightweight fight at UFC 216 between Will Brooks and Nik Lentz was scratched from the fight card due to medical issues for Lentz. UFC fighter Nik Lentz later released a statement on his Twitter on his fight getting pulled.

Lentz went into greater details on the bout cancellation this week. According to Lentz, his body was not responding to insuling correctly, and he was “having diabetic like issues.” You can read the full statement below.

“I didn’t make it to weigh ins this morning because I was in the hospital. My body is not responding to insulin correctly and during my weight cut last night my feet and hands went numb, I stopped sweating, my heart rate went through the roof and I didn’t know what was going on. I decided to go to the hospital and stayed there through the night into the morning. I’m not sure just yet as to the diagnosis of what’s happening, but I’m having diabetic like issues. I figured I could push through them and still fight. I was wrong. I’m sorry to everyone involved. I bit off more than I could chew and even though my health problem is not my fault, I should have handled it differently. God Bless everyone for their support throughout my camp. I will be back soon.”

UFC 216 is still scheduled for later today in Las Vegas, Nevada at the T-Mobile Arena. The fight card will be broadcast live on PPV, and prelims will be shown on FX and UFC Fight Pass. You can check out the 411 staff preview for the event RIGHT HERE.
