October 28, 2015 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Rafael Carvalho spoke with MMAjunkie about his next goal after he captured the Bellator middleweight title at Bellator 144. Check out the highlights:

On wanting a kickboxing title bout: “I don’t know the belt holder for 185 (pounds) at GLORY, but that’s something I’m interested in doing. I’d like to fight a kickboxing match and fight for that belt.”

On his kick that won the Bellator 144 bout: “I’ve been training that kick for a while. When we saw the opening, we didn’t waste any time. I knew I could do it.”

On his strategy: “In the first round, I expected him to come at me, take me down, and attempt a choke. I kept calm and I listened to my cornerman. I felt pretty safe, as far as my defense, and we let him wear himself out.”

On his next fight: “I’m just going to wait. It’s not up to me to decide who I should be fighting next. I’m an employee of (Bellator).”
