UFC in Talks for Kamaru Usman vs. Jorge Masvidal at UFC 251

July 4, 2020 | Posted by Ashish

ESPN reports that UFC is trying to book Kamaru Usman vs. Jorge Masvidal as the new main event for UFC 251 on July 11th after Gilbert Burns was removed from the card. The deal for the fight isn’t finalized yet, but negotiations are ongoing.

Masvidal was originally set for this fight but he and UFC couldn’t come to terms on a contract and UFC ended up giving the fight to Burns. Masvidal ended up criticizing UFC on Twitter for how they conduct business.

Now with Burns out, UFC and Masvidal are back to the negotiating table.

Usman tweeted about the possible fight today, saying: “Might be time for the Pig to squeal”

If a deal is worked out, Masvidal will have to pass at least three coronavirus tests before the fight, and UFC will have to figure out how to get he and Usman to Abu Dhabi since the UFC charter flight already left. Usman didn’t go on the UFC charter flight once Burns pulled out. They’d have to also pass the UAE’s coronavirus testing protocol.
