WSOF CEO Says Ray Sefo Is Their Official Matchmaker

WSOF CEO Carlos Silva spoke with MMAjunkie about the promotion’s matchmaker position, noting that president Ray Sefo is the matchmaker on record. The company has come under some criticism over concerns that Ali Abdelaziz was double-dealing as a manager and matchmaker which would be in violation of the NSAC’s statute on conflict of interest. On Sefo being the company’s matchmaker: “In terms of a couple of things that have come out in the past couple of days about Ali, the only thing I can say is that he’s a very passionate and dedicated guy, and he’s been a big help here. Ray is our matchmaker, and he’s going to continue to be that, and Ali will continue to help us as he has with sales and business development on an ongoing fashion.”

On meeting with the NSAC over concerns about Abdelaziz serving as a matchmaker: “There’s been some meetings, and we’re doing everything because I feel very strongly about doing the right thing, and we have a very good relationship with all the athletic commissions, whether it’s Nevada or Arizona or any of the other states we’ve been to. We take that stuff very seriously, and I take it very seriously, so we’re making sure we do everything to be in compliance.”

On Abdelaziz maintaning advisory role in putting fights together: “Any of us can give Ray any advice we want, including me, and I’m not a matchmaker. Ali’s done a bunch of the sales deals here, and Ali has advised Ray, but Ray’s our matchmaker, and that will continue.”
