Marvel released the official website for Captain Marvel, which like the film it promotes, is based in the 90s. That means there’s a guestbook, plenty of gifs and a design that looks straight out of an old Angelfire page. The URL is also something to keep an eye on, as it makes a reference to a Fantastic Four villain called Annihilus. The villain first appeared in Fantastic Four Annual #6 from November 1968. He is from the Negative Zone, another dimension, and controls the Annihilation WAve, a fleet of “insect-like warships” that pose a threat to the entire universe. His power level allows him to go up against names like Silver Surfer and Thanos.

Marvel loves to drop in Easter eggs and tease appearances of characters before they eventually get a bigger focus, but it remains to be seen if Annihilus shows up in Captain Marvel or if this was just a nod to fans.

Captain Marvel will be released on March 8. It was directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck from a script by Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman, Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Liz Flahive & Carly Mensch and Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck. It stars Brie Larson, Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn and Gemma Chan, Clark Gregg, Djimon Hounsou, Annette Benning and Lee Pace.

Here’s a synopsis: Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.
