The cult classic drag road trip dramedy The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert is getting a follow-up film, with the original stars set to return. Stephan Elliott, who wrote and directed the original film, told Deadline that a sequel is moving ahead with Terence Stamp, Guy Pearce and Hugo Weaving all set to reprise their roles.

“I’m not repeating myself, we’ll start the new film in Australia, but by God, we’re going on one helluva journey,” Elliot told the outlet. “The original cast is on board, I’ve got a script that everybody likes, we’re still working out deals. … It’s happening.”

Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert released in 1994 and was an instant critical hit, becoming a queer cult classic over time. The film stars Stamp, Pearce and Weaving as a trio of drag queens who take a bus named Priscilla across the Australian desert to Alice Springs for a performance. Along the way they have a number of encounters with locals. The film, released during at the height of the AIDS crisis, was groundbreaking in its introduction of queer characters and themes to mainstream audiences and grossed $29.7 million at the box office.

Elliot noted that the new film feature characters relating to Adam, who was Tick (Weaving)’s seven-year-old son in the original film, noting, “Well, he’s grown up now. Therefore I’ve written in a bunch of new characters to support a new generation.”

Elliot added that he’s hoping to start shooting this year and that Priscilla the bus “will feature.”
