Ahmed Best has news that some fans will be happy to hear: as far as he knows, there’s no plan to put Jar Jar Binks in the Obi-Wan Disney+ series. A rumor began circulating back in January that the notorious Gungan would make an appearance in the upcoming series, which will follow Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan following the events of Revenge of the Sith. Speaking with Jamie Stangroom, Best was asked about the rumor and shot it down.

Asked whether there was any truth to the story, Best — who played the role in the prequel trilogy — said, “Not as far I know, no.” He went on to expound that while Lucasfilm wouldn’t necessarily need him (in which case he wouldn’t know), he doesn’t see it as likely.

“The thing about what I did as Jar Jar as motion-capture, you know, Lucasfilm still has all that data, so they could put him in whatever they want to put him in, and it will move like me, they don’t actually need me for that,” Best said. “But if there was a rumour that I would be Jar Jar in Obi-Wan, then there’s no truth to that, I haven’t been asked. I just don’t know, to be completely honest I think Jar Jar is something that Lucasfilm is trying to move away from, I’m not going to hold my breath for a Jar Jar cameo in Obi-Wan, but you know, who knows.”

Jar Jar was last seen in the Star Wars universe in the Aftermath novels.
