It was reported earlier this month that national theater chains AMC, Regal, Landmark, Alamo Drafthouse and others would be closing their doors due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. Everything is still shut down, but in an interview with CNBC’s Squawk Alley (via the Hollywood Reporter), AMC CEO Adam Aron said he’s hopeful theaters will be open again by the middle of June. AMC in particular closed all 600 of its US locations, then either let go or laid off 26,000 employees.

He said: “We said we expected to be shut for six to 12 weeks. That would be May 1 to mid-June. That might be more the right timing. I think if we learned anything in the last two weeks is people just so want to get out of their houses. I think we’re all feeling cooped up and want to get out and have life return to normal.
