FremantleMedia North America, Lionsgate, and Starz have officially announced that American Gods kicked off production on the show’s sophomore season. Production started last week at the Wisconsin roadside attraction, The House on the Rock. The location serves as home to many unique collections but also a backdrop to a pivotal moment in the TV series and book.

The production also released a first look at a photo of the cast and executive producer Neil Gaiman and showrunner and executive producer Jesse Alexander in the Carousel Room (see above).

Executive producer Neil Gaiman stated in the press release, “The first season was all about getting to the House on the Rock. It’s amazing to see everyone back, and to be entering the next stage of the story with the best bunch of actors around, along with some inspired filmmakers.”

The plot follows a brewing war between old gods and the new ones: the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world are now starting to lose their believers to an upstart pantheon of gods based on society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs.

The show is produced by FremantleMedia North America. Jesse Alexander is showrunner and executive producer this season. Stefanie Berk is executive producing the show for Fremantle alongside Neil Gaiman, Ian McShane, Craig Cegielski and Scott Hornbacher.

American Gods will return to Starz and Amazon Prime later in 2019.
