Arnold Schwarzenegger Has Emergency Heart Surgery, Now In Stable Condition

March 30, 2018 | Posted by Joseph Lee

TMZ reports that Arnold Schwarzenegger is now in stable condition after having to undergo emergency heart surgery.

According to sources connected to Schwarzenegger, the procedure was done to “replace a pulmonic valve that was originally replaced due to a congenital heart defect in 1997. That 1997 replacement valve was never meant to be permanent and has outlived its life expectancy, so he chose to replace it yesterday through a less-invasive catheter valve replacement. During that procedure, an open-heart surgery team was prepared … in case the catheter procedure was unable to be performed.”

The procedure was performed at Cedars-Sinai yesterday. TMZ reports that it was experimental and Schwarzenegger developed complications. It was decided he needed open-heart surgery, which lasted several hours.

Schwarzenegger originally decided to get the surgery in 1997 while he was still young to get it fixed early, although at the time doctors didn’t feel it was necessary.
