Recently, rumors surfaced online that Warner Bros. Animation Group (WAG) and DC Entertainment were developing a new CG-animated feature based on Batman Beyond. However, The Wrap reporter Umberto Gonzalez, claims those rumors are false after speaking to contacts at WAG, DC Films, or WB Animation. You can check out his tweet on the subject below.

Gonzalez wrote that the official word from Warner Bros. on the rumors is: “Not true. We are not working on an animated Batman Beyond movie.” Additionally, IGN reportedly reached out to Warner Bros. and confirmed the same.

The rumors indicated there could be a new film in the works using the Beyond concept, and the film was going to work similarly to Sony’s recent Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which has become very successful for the studio. You can check out 411’s official review RIGHT HERE.

The Batman title originated as a 1999 animated series created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm. The show was a continuation of their longtime Batman: The Animated Series storyline (also The New Batman Adventures) set decades into the future. The story followed an elderly Bruce Wayne passing the mantle of Batman on to the young teenager, Terry McGinnis, who becomes the new crime fighter for a high-tech, futuristic Gotham City. Since that time, the characters and series have joined the DC Comics pantheon.

Obviously, just because WB denies the rumors doesn’t mean there is no film in development or that it was never kicked around. Previously, there was talk and development for a live-action film version of the show before Warner Bros. eventually opted to go in the direction of Batman Begins with Chris Nolan and David Goyer.

In terms of new films based around the Dark Knight, Matt Reeves is attached to direct a currently untitled Batman film that’s slated for a June, 2021 release date. It’s recently been confirmed that Ben Affleck won’t be returning to star in the titular role of the Caped Crusader.
