TVLine reports that The CW is working on a Batwoman TV series as part of the Arrowverse, which will focus on the second Batwoman, Kate Kane. The character was introduced in 2006 and is described as “an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter.” The series is being developed by Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions. Caroline Dries will write and executive produce with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns.

Here’s a synopsis: Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

Batwoman’s debut in the Arrowverse will take place in the annual crossover between Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl. Her debut was announced by Stephen Amell at the CW Upfront back in May.
