Academy Award winning filmmaker Ben Affleck recently exited from the role of Batman and confirmed he won’t be returning for Matt Reeves’ planned new film based on the Caped Crusader. The actor and director recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week and addressed his exit from the role. You can check out a video of his appearance below.

Affleck stated during his guest appearance: “I tried to direct a version of it and worked with a really good screenwriter but just couldn’t come up with a version — I couldn’t crack it and so I thought it’s time for someone else to take a shot at it. They got some really good people, so I’m excited.”

Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman film is currently slated for a June 2021 release. A new actor for Bruce Wayne/Batman has not yet been cast. Previously, Affleck was attached to both direct and star in the film. However, Reeves took over from Affleck in the writer/director chair in 2017. It was later confirmed that Affleck would not be returning to the role of the Dark Knight earlier this year.

Affleck debuted as Batman in 2017’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He went on to reprise the role again later that year in Suicide Squad and again in Justice League in 2017.
