According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ben Affleck and Oscar Isaac are in talks to star in the drug thriller formerly called Triple Frontier. The Netflix film is currently in pre-production. J.C. Chandor will direct from a script he rewrote, based on the original draft by Mark Boal. It begins shooting on March 26 in Hawaii, California and Colombia.

Triple Frontier is the border between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil, one of the world’s largest areas for organized crime. The film follows five friends who reunite to take down a South American drug lord, which starts “a chain of unintended consequences.” Charles Roven, Alex Gartner and Andy Horwitz will produce through Atlas Entertainment, with Thomas Hayslip, Neal Dodson and Anna Gerb executive producing.

The film has been in development hell since the 2000s. At one point it was going to be directed by Kathryn Bigelow, and names like Tom Hanks and Johnny Depp were attached. Early last year, when Paramount still had the film, Channing Tatum and Tom Hardy were in talks. It moved to Netflix and Affleck was sought to star. When he dropped out, Mark Wahlberg was set to star with Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund and Pedro Pascal. The latter three are still involved, along with Adria Arjona.
