Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot Reportedly On Pause

The long-in-development reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer has come to a halt. On THR’s TV’s Top 5 podcast, it was revealed by executive producer Gail Berman (per TV Line) that the reboot series is “on pause.”

The news is unlikely to be surprising to many, as the series hasn’t been mentioned for a while. It was originally put into development back in 2018 and would have had Joss Whedon back in an executive producer capacity, with Monica Owusu-Breen as the writer and showrunner. The series was either a reboot or continuation in the world created by Whedon for the 1997 TV series.

Whedon, of course, suffered a fall in the public eye after allegations by Ray Fisher and Gal Gadot of misconduct on the set of Justice League, which were followed by claims by Charisma Carpenter that he abused his power on the sets of Buffy and Angel. Whedon has not been involved in any project since those allegations came to light in mid-2020 and early 2021.
