Captain Marvel Tracking for $100 Million Plus Opening Weekend

According to The Hollywood Reporter, box office tracking for the upcoming March release, Captain Marvel, is looking fairly sizable. The new Marvel Studios release is currently tracking for a $100 million-plus opening weekend in North America. This would give the film the biggest opening weekend at the box office since Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. was released last summer and opened with $148 million.

By comparison, Warner Bros. and DC’s female-led solo superhero film, Wonder Woman, opened with $103 million in June 2017. The film ended up finishing with $412 million domestic and $821 million worldwide.

The last Marvel studios release, Ant-Man and the Wasp, had an opening weekend of $75.8 million. It would finish with $215 million domestic and made $622 million worldwide.

Rival studios with access to box office tracking are saying that the metrics for the film look “giant.” The metrics include unaided audience awareness and interest.

The latest MCU entry arrives on March 8. It’s directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck from a script by Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman, Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Liz Flahive & Carly Mensch and Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck. It stars Brie Larson, Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn and Gemma Chan, Clark Gregg, Djimon Hounsou, Annette Benning and Lee Pace. Here’s a synopsis:
