Captain Marvel ticket pre-sales have taken off in in the first twenty-four hours of release. Fandango announced that the film, which saw tickets go on pre-sale on Monday, had the third-highest first day in Marvel Cinematic Universe history. The film topped the likes of Captain America: Civil War and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 with only Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther scoring higher first-day sales.

“We’re seeing fantastic advance ticket sales for ‘Captain Marvel’ because it’s a historic film for Marvel Studios, one that fans have been waiting to see for a decade,” says Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis. “As the studio’s first female-driven superhero film, ‘Captain Marvel’ is a benchmark moment for the genre, for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and for star Brie Larson, who will play the most powerful Marvel superhero to date.”

The film follows Carol Danvers (Brie Larson, Room) as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, the film is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Larson co-stars with Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, with Annette Bening, Jude Law, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, and Clark Gregg. It releases on March 8th.
