CBS Orders Drama Pilots for LA Confidential Reboot and New Ava DuVernay Show

Deadline.com reports that CBS has ordered four new TV drama pilots, which include a new show produced by Ava DuVernay (Selma), a TV reboot of James Ellroy’s L.A. Confidential, Main Justice by Eric Holder and Jerry Bruckheimer, and also The Code from Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman.

Red Line is a racially charged drama written by Caitlin Parrish and Erica Weiss. The show explores the events after a white cop in Chicago, Illinois mistakenly shoots and kills a black doctor. The show will follow three different families that have connections with the case, and the story is told from each perspective.

The show is executive produced by Ava DuVernay, Greg Berlanti, and Sarach Schechter. Parrish and Weiss will co-executive produce the project. Warner Bros. TV is the studio for the project.

Main Justice is a new pilot written by Sascha Penn and inspired by Eric Holder’s life and work. The show will be centered around the U.S. Attorney General and into the world of the 5th floor of the Department of Justice. Holder, Penn, and Jerry Bruckheimer are executive producing the show. CBS TV is producing the show under an overall deal with Jerry Bruckheimer TV.

LA Confidential is a TV reboot based on the acclaimed 1997 movie, originally based on a novel by James Ellroy. The pilot will be written by Jordan Harper and will follow three homicide detectives, a female reporter, and a Hollywood actress when their paths intersect as the detectives pursue a sadistic serial killer among the secret and lies of 1950s Los Angeles. Harper executive produces the show with Arnon Milchan.

CBS TV Studios is set to co-produce the pilot with New Regency and Lionsgate Television.

Finally, the last pilot ordered is The Code, which is co-created and co-written by Craig Sweeny and Craig Turk. The show follows the military’s brightest minds taking on the country’s toughest challenges inside and outside the courtroom. The show features attorneys trained as a prosecutor, a defense laywer, an investigator, and a Marine.

Sweeny will executive produce the project and serve as showrunner. Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman will executive produce the pilot for Timberman/Beverly Productions for CBS TV Studios.
