HBO’s controversial slavery drama from Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benoiff, Confederate, is still moving forward, with HBO President Casey Bloys insisting that the delays have nothing to do with the harsh backlash the show received when it was announced and instead are simply because Weiss and Benoiff are set to make several Star Wars films for Disney.

“Dan and David are finishing up the final season [of Game of Thrones] and then they are going to go into the Star Wars universe,” Bloys said. “When they come out of that, I assume they will come back to us.”

Confederate will focus on an alternate ending to the Civil War, resulting in a world where slavery is still legal in the southern United States. News of the show prompted backlash over two white showrunners making a show about slavery.

The creative team for Confederate does include several people of color including Nichelle Tramble Spellman (The Good Wife) and Malcom Spellman (Empire).
