Shudder is once again upping their game. A week after hosting The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs, the streaming service is once again set to make horror fans nostalgic with a return to the world of Creepshow. Entertainment Weekly reports that Shudder will air a TV series based on the 1982 anthology film from Stephen King and George A. Romero. Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead) will direct, executive produce and supervise the creative aspects of the series. This continues Nicotero’s relationship with AMC, which owns Shudder.

Shudder general manager Craig Engler said: “Creepshow is one of the most beloved and iconic horror anthologies from two masters of the genre, George A. Romero and Stephen King. We’re thrilled to continue their legacy with another master of horror, Greg Nicotero, as we bring a new Creepshow TV series exclusively to Shudder members.

Nicotero revealed that he met Tom Savini, who mentored him in the world of special effects, while visiting the set of the original Creepshow. He later worked with director George Romero on films like Day of the Dead. He added: “Creepshow is a project very close to my heart! It is one of those titles that embraces the true spirit of horror… thrills and chills celebrated in one of its truest art forms, the comic book come to life! I’m honored to continue the tradition in the ‘spirit’ which it was created.

The new series will debut in 2019. Each episode will tell a new, original story from a different filmmaker. Nicotero will direct the first episode and his company KNB EFX Group will handle the creature and makeup effects. It will be produced by The Cartel with Monster Agency Productions, Taurus Entertainment, and Striker Entertainment.

Cartel CEO Stan Spry added: “The Cartel is excited to bring the iconic Creepshow brand to Shudder as a series. There is no better person to be the creative force behind this new production than Greg Nicotero. His experience and leadership will ensure that the series is of the highest quality and will help to excite horror fans around the world.
