Bob Einstein, best known as Super Dave Osborne and Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Marty Funkhouser, has passed away. TMZ reports that Einstein died on Wednesday at his home Indian Wells, California due to cancer. He was seventy-six years old.

Einstein was most prominent in recent years in his recurring role on Curb, but before that he was a prolific writer and comedian who won an Emmy as part of the writing team for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour in the 1960s. He also earned Emmy nominations for writing in The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour and Van Dyke and Company, the latter of which he won an Emmy for as a producer in 1977 when the show won Outstanding Comedy Series. He also appeared on screen during the Smothers’ show.

He would go on to make a name for himself as Super Dave Osborn, appearing as the failure-prone stuntman on a variety of shows, including his own series Super Dave on Showtime and Super Davbe SpikeTacular in 2009.

HBO told the site that Einstein was intended to be part of the upcoming tenth season of Curb but was unable to do so due to his health. Larry David issued a statement on Einstein’s passing, saying, “Never have I seen an actor enjoy a role the way Bob did playing ‘Marty Funkhouser’ on ‘Curb.’ It was an amazing, unforgettable experience knowing and working with him. There was no one like him, as he told us again and again. We’re all in a state of shock.”

On behalf of 411, our condolences to the family, friends and fans of Mr. Einstein.
